GOVT MICRO IRRIGATION SUBSIDY

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

Launched on July 1, 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) was established with the vision of "Har Khet Ko Pani" (Water for Every Field). The program aims to extend irrigation coverage and enhance water use efficiency across the nation. By providing end-to-end solutions for source creation, distribution, management, field application, and extension activities, PMKSY seeks to achieve the following objectives:

Convergence of Investments: To unify investments in irrigation at the field level, ensuring optimal use of resources.

Expansion of Irrigated Area: To increase the cultivable area under assured irrigation.

Improved Water Use Efficiency: To enhance on-farm water use efficiency, thereby minimizing water wastage.

Adoption of Precision Irrigation: To promote the use of precision-irrigation and other water-saving technologies.

Aquifer Recharge: To boost the recharge of aquifers, ensuring sustainable groundwater levels.

Sustainable Water Conservation: To explore the feasibility of reusing treated municipal wastewater for peri-urban agriculture.

Attracting Private Investment: : To encourage greater private investment in precision irrigation systems.

Programme Components of PMKSY

The PMKSY program is structured around several key components, each addressing specific aspects of irrigation and water management:

Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP): Focuses on the expedited completion of ongoing major and medium irrigation projects implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD&GR).

PMKSY "Har Khet Ko Pani": Aims to ensure water availability in water-scarce areas through rainwater harvesting, repair, restoration, and renovation of traditional water bodies. This component is also implemented by the MoWR, RD&GR.

PMKSY "Per Drop More Crop": Concentrates on the development of micro-level storage structures, efficient water conveyance and application, precision irrigation systems, and supplementary input costs beyond MGNREGA limits. This component is managed by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW).

PMKSY Watershed Development: Focuses on ridge area treatment, drainage line treatment, soil and moisture conservation, water harvesting structures, livelihood support activities, and other watershed management efforts, implemented by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR).

Under the "Per Drop More Crop" component of PMKSY, the central and state governments typically contribute 45% and 55%, respectively, towards the total financial cost of establishing micro-irrigation systems. However, the specific financial contribution may vary depending on the state.
